Sergio Kajirian, Founder at PEK Interactive and Hannah Murray, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Athena Cosmetics meet with students at the Marketing Club at Pepperdine University.  The main topic was how best to take advantage of the latest online social marketing channels. We heard from SMO practitioners on how to lower your advertising budget, while increasing your effective reach. Discussed topics: Getting up to speed on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogging, and Social Advertising.

We reviewed how Social Media technology is changing advertising budgets and were able to hear some industry specific tactics social media tactics.

The Marketing Club at Pepperdine is comprised of dedicated first and second year MBA students who seek to collaborate on marketing industry knowledge, trends and general networking in the field. The club hosts several speakers and panel sessions throughout the year covering all aspects of marketing. Past speakers have come from the following sub-disciplines and industries within marketing: brand management, business development, consumer packaged goods, entertainment, social media, the restaurant industry, software and others. Our most recent speakers for the 2009 fall academic year have included Mr. Truman Thomas, West Coast Regional Manager for Ticketmaster, Sergio Kajirian, founder of search engine optimization firm PEK Interactive, and Hannah Murray, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Athena Cosmetics.

Who is Areg Bagdasarian?
Areg Bagdasarian co is a second-year student in the 20-month Full-time MBA program at Pepperdine’s Graziadio School of Business and Management and is co-president of the school’s marketing club. He is a 2002 graduate of Tufts University with a double major in economics and international relations and spent a semester abroad at the University of Tuebingen, near Stuttgart in Germany. He spent his time after Tufts working in management consulting for start-up technology companies focusing on business-to-business software. Areg is an avid blogger with a focus on clean technology trends in the car industry and founded the blog www.sleekandgreen.com.  He will be completing his MBA with a marketing focus and looks forward to a career in transportation consulting or social media.

Who is Hannah Murray?
As Vice President of Marketing for Athena Cosmetics, Hannah Murray built this small start up cosmetic company to a multi-million dollar organization with a prominent, internationally recognized brand.   Under her strategic marketing leadership, the company’s hero product, Revitalash, became the number one selling eyelash conditioner and established a new cosmetic product category of eyelash enhancing products.  She spearheads the conception and development of innovative product line extensions, seasonal promotions, and product awareness campaigns.  Under her guidance, the company continues to grow and maintain its ownership of the category.

Throughout her career, Hannah has always been a risk taker and forward, out-of-the-box thinker.  As a Marketing Director at Gold Coast Broadcasting, owner of 20 radio stations in the Southern California area, she oversaw an average of 27 events each week.  Full of creative ideas, she earned a reputation for producing unique, highly successful events.

She lives in Ventura, California and spends her free time as an advocate for the American Cancer Society alongside her eight year old daughter Mia and her fiancé, Derek.
